No utility bills! This house is off-grid. The electricity is powered by 6 solar panels and a wind generator. The energy is captured in 8 batteries which are five years old. The water is from a well drilled 5 years ago. The well has a slow flow rate, but is also very deep -- around 500 feet. The depth of the well means there's 200-250 gallons of water in it. It's an ag. well, so I've used it for home purposes and watering a garden and livestock (50 animals), and I've never run out of water. there's also a second, grandfathered well, for livestock watering. This well is approximately 50' deep with 5-10' of standing water...perfect for the windmill on top of it (not hooked up).

The appliances are propane - cook stove, refrigerator, dryer, heating stove and hot water heater. There is also a wood heating stove.

An old corral and giant windmill are also are on the property, adding a touch of historic ranching to the atmosphere. A 40' x 18' fully enclosed barn is great for keeping the animals dry and warm. The property is fenced and cross-fenced with five fields. There is also a fence around the house.

Westcliffe is a small town, but has some very nice ammenities. There's a vibrant arts community and a movie theater. The library was recently remodeled and has the most helpful staff. Club America has an indoor pool and other work-out equipment. The grocery store is small, but you certainly won't starve.

The area also boasts fantastic hiking and lots of ag land dotted with calves in the spring.
