Springtime Farms offers alpaca farm tours on Saturday afternoons, from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays by appointment from June through August. The public is invited to visit the farm and enjoy the great view of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Springtime Farms is 16 miles south of Westcliffe, CO. It is about 1 ½ hours from Pueblo and 2 from Colorado Springs. Farms tours are $10 per person. You can stay as long as you’d like. For directions, call Meredith at 719-783-9619 or e-mail Meredith@SnugglyToes.com.
During your alpaca farm tour, you will get to feed the alpacas by hand. These gentle darlings will capture your attention with their inquisitive nature and sweet faces. Owner Meredith O’Neil will personally show you around the farm and answer any questions you have.
You will be the belle of the ball when you walk in the pasture. The girls will be lined up, waiting for you. Tessa and her daughter, O’Shannon, will be first in line for treats. Santa Fe will be trying to gather the courage to take a nibble. Come play with the alpacas on a farm tour.
Besides their personalities, alpacas have wonderful fiber. Meredith works will the fiber, and will show you what it looks and feels like during your alpaca farm tour. Have you ever felt alpaca fiber? It’s so, so soft. Before it can be worn, alpaca fiber is washed, carded, and spun. Meredith will show you that too. Your farm tour includes a spinning demonstration.
The alpacas aren’t the only stop on the farm tour though. In fact, they’re probably the second stop. The first stop will happen as soon as you get out of your car when the goats come to say hi.
Depending on the day, the chickens will either be out in the fields or in their coop. They’re cute little things. There may even be a few chicks around.
Another interesting thing about Springtime Farms is that it is off-grid. The power lines are about six miles from the farm, so all the electricity is powered by the sun and wind.
Hopefully the garden and greenhouse will be in full bloom. Come check out the tomatoes, carrots, beets and more.
