Do you love alpacas? Do you produce an alpaca product? Do you own a farm store and want to carry American made products? Let's promote alpacas together.
I'm totally in love with my alpacas. But there is more to this industry than the animals. There's the fiber! I've heard it many times, "The future of this industry is the fiber." I also hear people saying there aren't enough American made alpaca products. I'm getting the impression that's not quite true.
I think there are quite a few American made alpaca products out there, but people aren't hearing about them. I want to change that. The truth of the matter is, I have an American made alpaca product I want to promote -- Snuggly Toes alpaca foot warmers. I find getting the word out and selling are the hardest things for me to do. But I know there's a whole group of folks who would love to know about them.
Rather than doing all the work for just my product, I thought why not gather everyone and promote all the products together? Here's my idea:
I'll keep a master e-mail list of people who are interested (who volunteer) to promote alpaca products and events (no animals). If you sign up for the list you may submit any product or event of your own or that you know about. Each week (maybe bi-weekly) I'll send out an e-mail with the information. You, in turn, promise to promote as many of these products/events as possible. I think the easiest way is through personal or farm Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. Blogs, flyers, e-mails are other possibilities. There will be no requirements. You can promote as many as you want; any way you want. You just promise to promote as you will be promoted.
This won't cost you anything. It's free. I will not sell your e-mail to anyone. You can remove yourself from the list at any time. I reserve the right to not include your submission if I feel it doesn't fit within the guidelines, but the guidelines are simple:
Any American made alpaca product may be promoted. I prefer it use American grown fiber, but that's not a requirement.
Any event that includes alpacas - farm visits, open houses, classes etc. - may be promoted.
These guidelines may change, but at the moment the only thing I don't want to get into promoting is the actual animals. This is not a way to sell or give away any animals. I am sorry if you are in a dire predicament and must get rid of animals immediately, but this is not the way to do that.
If you have a farm store, this is an excellent way to find new American made alpaca products.
To make this easy, I will likely copy and paste the information you send. So, include contact information, a web page, a good description, a picture if you'd like. No promises all pictures will make it.
That's it. That's my idea. If you'd like to join in, e-mail me at Meredith@SnugglyToes.com. Please spread the word about our spreading the word.
